Up for sale, a 1984 Tokai Silver Star model TSS-38 vintage electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of the more popular "lawsuit" vintage guitar brands, Tokai is known for making faithful iterations of favored USA models, and this Silver Star Strat is no exception. With gray bobbin pickups and a clear, cutting natural voice, this guitar delivers the Stratty goods with articulate snap and chime. The pickups have a chewy cut and sparkle, with a round-sounding neck pickup and plenty of biting twang in the bridge position. The guitar weighs 8lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and comfortable action. The maple neck has a medium rounded C shaped profile with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .855” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire with plenty of meat. There is light wear exclusively beneath the plain strings up to fret 10, and the guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is a full 25 1/2”, while the nut measures 1 9/16“ in width. The large Strat headstock features a block Silver Star logo, bullet truss rod, and set of chrome tuners that mimic Fender's F-style gears, turning smoothly and holding pitch well. The electronics work as should with the original trio of gray bobbin pickups, full-size pots, and a five-way pickup selector switch. The pickups all meter at just under 6k ohms, with clear, balanced tone in every pickup position, and the pots date to 1984. All of the stock plastics are intact including the knobs, pickup covers, and three-ply pickguard which shows a bit of requisite pick scuffing. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine with only light surface patina. The original Olympic White finish has a hint of yellowing in the clear coat, evidenced by a faint sticker tan line behind the bridge. Cosmetic wear includes some light finish scratches and dings on the body as a whole, with a few additional tiny finish chips, and wear is largely relegated to the perimeter and back of the body. The neck sports the original smooth gloss finish with some light, shallow marks along the profile length that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.
