Up for sale, a 1984 Squier by Fender Bullet hot-rodded “Coodercaster” in perfect working order, augmented with all-new electronics including a pair of Lollar pickups. The Teisco-style Gold Foil/Chicago Steel pickup complement is reminiscent of the iconic 1967 Stratocaster played by Ry Cooder throughout his career. Produced by Fender Japan at the Fujigen factory and made only from 1983-84, this guitar comes from that narrow manufacturing window. The Lollar Gold Foil in the neck position is a faithful recreation of the classic Teisco pickup, favored for its uniquely organic, raw tonal character and harmonic content. This Lollar iteration has a bell-like roundness, with ample richness and percussive cut. The Chicago Steel in the bridge position replicates the Valco single coil pickups found in '50s Oahu lap steel guitars, prized for their clarity and pristine, sparkling chime. With both pickups engaged on the three-way switch, the guitar yields an exceedingly balanced, natural sound that can deliver sweet clean tones and overdriven dirt equally well. This Squier Bullet Coodercaster weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The one-piece maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve that borders on a very soft V, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1/4” radius with flawless slender fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42mm (1.650") in width. The headstock features microscopic "Made in Japan" text beneath the Squier name, and the original Gotoh-made tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. There is also an additional string tree mounting hole behind the two current string trees. The SQ-prefix serial number is embossed on the four-bolt neck plate. The slab body features a Strat-esque shape, and the electronics have been upgraded, with the Lollar pickups wired to USA-made CTS pots and a premium .047uF tone cap. Controls include a three-way pickup selector and Master Volume and Tone knobs (the third knob currently has no function). The body has been routed to accommodate the current pickup pair, and the body routes and underside of the pickguard feature copper shielding tape to ensure the lowest possible noise floor. The pickguard is custom-made for the current pickup pair, and hardware includes dome-topped knurled knobs and a Strat-style vibrato with a full-size trem block for optimal resonance.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish includes a number of dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole, with some small finish chips along the body perimeter, largely concentrated along the lower bout. The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and fast in the palm, with a few shallow marks on the profile length that have no impact on playability.A gigbag is included.
