Up for sale, a 1984 Greco MSV-650 Michael Schenker signature Flying V in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. One of the more unique "lawsuit era" instruments to come out of one of Japan's most storied eras of guitar production, this MSV-65 faithfully replicates the specs of Michael Schenker’s signature Flying V. It was produced at the legendary Fujigen factory, where Gibson would later produce their Orville line of Japan-exclusive guitars.Tonewoods include a mahogany body and one-piece neck capped by a thick slab rosewood fretboard, yielding a big, bold acoustic voice, with the inherent warmth and midrange qualities of the solid mahogany construction translating well through the stock “Screamin” PAF-style humbuckers. These pickups are cutting and thick, interacting well with high gain and providing plenty of chunk and power. This V weighs 7lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action and spot-on intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve that (fittingly) borders on a soft V at the nut, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and .999” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius and retains the flawless stock medium jumbo fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock nut is solid brass for optimal sustain and top end articulation, measuring 1 9/16” in width. The headstock sports a two-tone truss rod cover with etched silver Greco logo. The original Greco-branded Schaller-style tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with an even dusting patina on their nickel-plated buttons. The back of the headstock retains the factory model 650 sticker above the pronounced volute, and the D84-prefix serial dates this V to April, 1984.All of the electronics work as intended, with the “Screamin” PAF-style humbuckers wired to the stock harness and governed by a three-way selector switch and Volume/Volume/Tone control configuration. Hardware includes the clean nickel-plated ABR-1-style bridge and stopbar. Plastics comprise the original trio of Strat-style knobs and the two-tone pickguard, which displays scuffing along the pick path. A few corners of the pickup rings have tiny chips and splits, but they are stable and secure. The two-tone finish displays some light yellowing of the clear coat over the White half of the body, with cosmetic wear limited to a light, targeted spot of buckle rash on the back at the waist, and just a handful of microscopic dings and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss two-tone finish on the neck profile is immaculate, save for one tiny ding on the bass-side shoulder behind fret 6 that is imperceptible to the palm while fretting. The original form-fit faux leather gigbag is included.
