Up for sale, a 1984 Gibson Les Paul Custom in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original “chainsaw” molded hardshell case. This Les Paul Custom features an extremely well-preserved and virtually unaged gloss Silverburst nitro lacquer gloss finish, only offered from 1979-85, loaded with a pair of era-correct Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers.

Traditional tonewoods include a carved maple top, solid mahogany body, mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard, weighing 9lbs 13oz. The guitar offers plenty of natural muscle, treble cut and sweet sustain, and at the heart of this Les Paul Custom are a pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers. These pickups represent Gibson's first attempt at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design. Offered for only a few short years in the '80s, the Shaws are designed with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving the harmonic complexity, power, and tonal clarity of the original PAF. This Les Paul Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Silverburst nitro lacquer finish is notably un-aged, with the majority of vintage examples exhibiting extensive yellowing of the clear coat (the neck profile has fractionally more yellowing than the body from contact with the palm). Cosmetic wear is limited to light buckle wear and just a few minor dings.

The original “chainsaw” molded hardshell case is included.
