Up for sale, a 1984 Fender '62 Stratocaster model ST62-65 in perfect working order with a gloss Olympic White finish. Produced in the third year of Fender Japan production, this rare model was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market as part of the "Japanese Vintage" (JV) line which only lasted from 1982-84.These extremely well-crafted instruments paralleled Fender's USA reissue production at the Fullerton factory, and this Strat is extremely accurate to vintage spec with a resonant alder body, thick slab rosewood fretboard on the one-piece maple neck, and a lively and full-sounding natural acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups. The guitar features a trio of early Fender Japan black bobbin single coils. The bridge pickup is sparkling and clear, while the neck pickup has ideal fullness and a chiming bell-like top end. The original five-way switch makes it easy to access quintessential Strat quack and cut in positions 2 and 4 too. The guitar weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, spot-on intonation, and fresh 10-46 strings. The maple neck has a comfortable medium C profile carve, very representative of Fenders vintage 1962 neck shapes, gaining a hair more roundness in the higher registers, with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges. The profile measures .830" deep at the 1st fret at .905" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard is a very dark and tight-grained cut, and the original slender frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, growing fainter until fret 7. The guitar conforms to traditional Fender specs with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, 25 1/2" scale length, and 1.650" nut width. On the correct '60s shape headstock, the guitar has been fitted with a modern set of Kluson-style tuners that perfectly match the footprint of the originals. The pencil date on the neck heel reads 10-11-84.All of the electronics work as intended, with black bobbin pickups and original full-size Japanese pots which date to August of 1984. All of the original plastic parts are intact, with a three-ply white pickguard and uniformly aged pickup covers and knobs. The chrome-plated bridge base, jack cup, and JV-prefix neck plate have plenty of shine, with surface rust on the Fender-embossed saddles, yet all screws still turn. The vibrato actuates smoothly with a full-size trem block and original arm.The Olympic White gloss finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, exhibiting aging of the clear coat, a few faint sticker outlines at the bass-side waist, and letters “o-k-o” just north of the bridge. There is finish checking and scuffing on top behind the bridge, with additional dings and marks across the body, mostly relegated to the back and body parameter. The smooth ambered gloss neck profile finish shows just a few small shallow marks.A gigbag is included.
