Up for sale, a 1984 Bond Electra Glide carbon fiber electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with original hardshell case and external power supply. Built by Andrew Bond in Scotland only between 1984-85, this instrument could only have been born in the mid-1980s, and less than 1400 of these guitars were ever built. Features include active electronics, with push-button EQ controls and corresponding LED readout, as well as a stepped phenolic resin fretboard. Despite their short production timeline, the Electra Glide legacy was cemented thanks to their use by Mick Jones and The Edge (who used his extensively in the recording of The Joshua Tree). The entire guitar (both neck and body) features carbon fiber construction, weighing 8lbs 7oz. While carbon fiber is relatively neutral when it comes to tonal properties, it does offer some unique advantages that wood cannot; namely a high degree of stability and resistance to climate shifts, as well as improved durability. The trio of Bond single coil pickups are tonally balanced and clear, and the sound can be sculpted dramatically via the onboard EQ. This Electra Glide has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with low action and fresh 11-49 strings. The carbon fiber neck has a medium depth D-shape profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .850” deep at the 1st “fret” and .925” at the 12th. The fretboard is made of cast phenolic resin and features a unique stepped design, with the steps providing the same function as traditional frets. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2" scale, the nut measures 42mm in width (1.650"), and the headstock features original Schaller tuners which provide excellent stability. The electronics all function as intended, including the push-button EQ controls, pickup selectors, and corresponding LED screen. The five pickup selector buttons enable various combinations depending on which buttons are pushed simultaneously, and the neck and bridge pickups can cycle through two individual tones each. The Volume, Bass, and Treble controls allow for onboard EQ sculpting with just the press of a button, and the red/orange/green LED display shows how much of each control has been engaged. The bright chrome-plated hardware includes a Schaller roller bridge and corresponding TP-6 tailpiece with fine tuners to further dial in the intonation. Cosmetic wear is limited to a bit of light scuffing across the pick path, and a small area of buckle rash and a few additional minor marks on the back. The original Bond-branded hardshell case is included, as is the original Bond external power supply and cable. The front right corner of the case is cracked and taped over, but there is no impact on the case's overall integrity.
