Up for sale, a 1984 B.C. Rich NJ Series Mockingbird Bass model RMB-2 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original form-fit gigbag. A rare model from the NJ Series (Nagoya, Japan), this bass has a commanding, powerful sound with rich sustain, featuring maple through-neck construction with mahogany body wings and a slab rosewood fretboard. The split-coil pickups offer plenty of warm growl and low end thump, and blending the bridge and neck positions yields notable sonic range beyond a typical P-style instrument. This bass weighs 8lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .980” at the 12th. The thick slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard features practically perfect original medium jumbo fretwire which has plenty of meat and shows virtually no wear. This bass plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 34”, and the bone nut measures 1 5/8” in width. The headstock features a rosewood veneer inlaid with a vertical B.C. Rich logo and clean “NJ Series” gold silkscreen script. The “R”-embossed tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, sporting clean chrome plating, and the back of the headstock retains the serialized foil sticker.
All the electronics work as intended, with the pair of split coil pickups wired to the original harness with full-size Japanese pots, governed by a three-way pickup selector switch, independent Volume knobs for each pickup, and a Master Tone control. Plastics comprise the original trio of black knobs and cream pickup covers. The toploader bridge and large block saddles are notably clean.
The gloss Cherry Red Sunburst finish is dark and rich, highlighting light figuring on the maple neck. Cosmetic wear is limited to a finish chip on the back bass-side lower bout edge and a handful of faint finish scratches and minor dings on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth in the palm with sparingly little wear.
The original B.C. Rich-branded faux leather black gigbag is included.
