Up for sale, a 1983 José Ramirez 1a classical guitar in excellent, 100% original condition. Considered the oldest running direct lineage of Spanish luthiers, seamlessly passing on the tradition since the late 1800s, Jose Ramirez guitars are a cornerstone of the Madrid school of guitar makers and are world renowned for good reason. Famously designated "1a" (which stands for "primera" in Spanish, and means "1st" or "highest" quality), the 1a represents Ramirez's top quality workmanship, with exquisite detail and wood choice.
This meticulously crafted guitar comes from the era of José Ramirez III and features a Ramirez-braced (a technique developed by JR III utilizing spruce bracing and combining ladder and fan bracing styles) cedar top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck capped with an ebony fingerboard. Tonally, this 1a is sonorous and sweet, with a particularly warm and round low end, and crisp, immediate trebles that really shine through. Complex chords have excellent clarity, and this instrument is dynamic and highly responsive to player inputs. Weighing 3lbs 12oz, this Ramirez 1a has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with normal tension strings and ideal action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Medium classical D, measuring .855” 1st fret, .970” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 648mm (25.5”)
-Nut: 52mm (2.05”), bone, 43mm string spacing

This is a crack-free example, with cosmetic wear on the gloss lacquer finish limited to a small area of touched-up wear on the treble-side soundhole edge, a few small dings on the lower bout on top, faint buckle scuffing on the upper bout of the back, and a few additional small nicks and finish scratches. The gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
A softshell case is included.
