Up for sale, a 1983 Greco RR55 model LP Custom, honestly played and in perfect working order. Taking its cues from Randy Rhoads' famous '74 Les Paul Custom (thus the "RR" model designation), this is a particularly rare Greco, referencing the small cosmetic tweaks Rhoads made to his Custom including Schaller-style tuning machines. It's incredible the attention to detail executed by Greco at the Fujigen factory on their Mint Collection series instruments like this RR55. They simply nail the small touches of vintage Gibson models, with details like a long neck tenon joint, patent numbers on the bottom of the ABR-1-style bridge, and a perfectly shaped small headstock volute, setting the Greco guitars apart from many lesser "lawsuit" instruments. Weighing 10lbs 10oz, this Greco has incredible punch and definition, excelling in high gain situations via the humbucker pair, metering in the mid 8k ohms range. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Greco RR55 is dialed in with slinky action and fresh 10-46 strings. The mahogany neck has a medium C profile carve with slight shoulders at the nut, filling out with more roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 12th. The bound dark rosewood fretboard features fret edge binding and original medium jumbo frets which show moderate uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, extending more faintly beneath the plain strings until fret 6. The guitar plays well in all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The guitar conforms to traditional Gibson specifications with a 1 11/16" hand-carved bone nut and 24 3/4" scale length. The headstock sports an inlaid Greco logo and a vaguely diamond-shaped pattern, with multi-ply headstock binding and gold Schaller-style tuning machines with the Greco "G" on each gear. There are some small finish chips on the top headstock edge and one touched-up nick on the voluteThe electronics work as they should, with a substituted pickup pair with nickel covers (origin unknown). The control array features individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup and a three-way pickup selector toggle. The long neck tenon is visible in the neck pickup cavity, a structural bonus that increases sustain and resonance. The guitar is fitted with a quartet of modern black bonnet knobs, and the black three-ply pickguard shows some requisite pick scuffing. The Alpine White gloss finish exhibits prominent scuffing and some shallow dings across the back, with wear extending to the lower bout treble side adjacent to the input jack. There are a few additional minor marks on top, and wear on the neck profile is limited to a few marks on the profile length, mostly on the bass-side shoulder behind frets 9-10.A gigbag is included.
