Up for sale, a 1983 Fender Telecaster '52 vintage reissue model TL52-70 in 100% original, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. An extremely early "Made in Japan" example that for all intents and purposes (given the dated components) should still be a JV serialized instrument, yet is one of the very first to bear the subsequent A-prefix serialization. Crafted at the famed Fujigen factory and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Tele is an upper-tiered model with numerous vintage-correct features including the same USA-made black bobbin pickups used on Fender's Fullerton-era reissues, brass bridge saddles, flathead screws used throughout, and a pencil dated neck heel.Traditional Tele tonewood ingredients include a solid ash body and one-piece maple neck, offering a resonant, snappy, and dynamically responsive platform for the single coil pair. With chewy twang with plenty of edge and percussive cut, the USA-made black bobbin pickups excel and both crystalline sparkle and smooth warmth. The guitar weighs 7lbs 15oz, dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and solid intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The slender vintage-style frets retain their full factory height and have well-rounded crowns, practically perfect with just a touch wear beneath the plain strings from frets 1-3. The guitar plays well in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The neck has Fender's traditional 25 1/2" scale length, with a vintage-spec 7 1/4" fretboard radius. The nut measures 1.675" in width (42.5mm). The headstock sports a set of original Kluson-style Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. Above the Fender-embossed four-bolt neck plate, the "Made in Japan" text is present, and the neck heel is pencil dated 11-1-83. The neck heel and pocket are both stamped with the TL52-70 model number. All of the electronics work as they should, with the stock three-way blade pickup selector and original full-size potentiometers which date to February of '83. The ash body has a rich transparent Butterscotch finish, showcasing the prominent grain of the wood, accented by a one-ply black pickguard. The vintage-style bridge has a trio of brass saddles, and the bridge base is stamped with the A-prefix serial number. The chrome hardware is positively gleaming on the knurled, domed knobs and control plate, with light patina on the saddles. Exceedingly well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to just a few tiny nicks and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.A vintage premium Japanese gigbag is included.
