Up for sale, a 1983 Fender '62 Stratocaster model ST62-65 in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order with the original custom color Metallic Pink gloss finish and USA-made Fullerton black bobbin pickups. Produced very early in the second year of Fender Japan production, this rare model was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market as part of the "Japanese Vintage" (JV) line which only lasted from 1982-84.These extremely well-crafted instruments paralleled Fender's USA reissue production at the Fullerton factory, and this Strat is extremely accurate to vintage spec with a resonant alder body, thick slab rosewood fretboard on the maple neck, and a smooth, balanced acoustic quality that translates well through the pickups. The guitar retains its original trio of black bobbin single coils, and these USA-made pickups are the same pickups used in the Fullerton factory USA vintage reissue models. Also of note, due to a running change in 1983 with the pickups in the 65 model tier, the Fullerton-made single coils are only seen early in the '83 model year. The bridge pickup is sparkling and clear, while the neck pickup has ideal fullness and a chiming bell-like top end. The original three-way switch, if positioned carefully, can also access the thinned-out squawk and snap of the "in-between" settings. The guitar is notably lightweight at 7lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, spot-on intonation, and fresh 10-46 strings. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret at .920" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard retains the original slender frets which have their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar conforms to traditional Fender specs with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius and 25 1/2" scale length. The nut width is 42.5mm, just shy of 1 11/16". On the correct early '60s shape headstock, the original Kluson-style tuners are clean as can be and turn smoothly, and the small "65" sticker noting the model tier and piece in yen in '83 is perfect. The pencil date on the neck heel reads 1-11-83.All of the electronics work as intended, with genuine Fullerton-made USA black bobbin pickups wired to full-size Japanese pots which date back to 1982. All of the original plastic parts are intact, with a bright white three-ply white pickguard and original trio of knobs, while the pickup covers show faint uniform aging. The chrome plating on the bridge base, jack cup, and JV-prefix neck plate is positively gleaming, and the vibrato actuates easily, complete with the original arm.Exceedingly well-kept, the very rare custom color Metallic Pink finish (referenced in the '83 catalog simpy by the "MP" abbreviation) is a bold shade of pink with the faintest dimensional microscopic metalflake. Wear is limited to a few dings and light finish scratches on the body as a whole, with wear largely relegated to the lower bout body edge. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original brown form-fit gigbag with large Fender text on the pocket is included and equally as clean as the guitar.
