Up for sale, a 1983 Fender '62 Stratocaster model ST62-65 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order with the original custom color Metallic Pink gloss finish. Produced in the second year of Fender Japan production, this rare model was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market as part of the "Japanese Vintage" (JV) line which only lasted from 1982-84. These extremely well-crafted instruments paralleled Fender's USA reissue production at the Fullerton factory, and this Strat is extremely accurate to vintage spec with a resonant alder body, thick slab rosewood fretboard on the one-piece maple neck, and a smooth, balanced acoustic quality that translates well through the pickups. The guitar retains its original trio of black bobbin single coils, purportedly USA-made according to Fender Japan's '83 catalog, featuring untouched solder joints. The bridge pickup is sparkling and clear, while the neck pickup has ideal fullness and a chiming bell-like top end. The original five-way switch makes it easy to access quintessential Strat quack and cut in positions 2 and 4 too. The guitar weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, spot-on intonation, and fresh 10-46 strings. The maple neck has a comfortable slender C profile carve, very representative of Fenders vintage 1962 neck shapes, gaining a hair more roundness in the higher registers, with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges. The profile measures .815" deep at the 1st fret at .910" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard is a very dark and tight-grained cut, and the original slender frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing very little wear. The guitar conforms to traditional Fender specs with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, 25 1/2" scale length, and 1 5/8" nut width. On the correct '60s shape headstock, the original Kluson-style tuners are clean as can be and turn smoothly. There is light overspray on the headstock face, which features vintage-correct Stratocaster and Original Contour Body waterslide decals. The pencil date on the neck heel reads 8-20-83.All of the electronics work as intended, with black bobbin pickups and untouched solder joints, wired to full-size Japanese pots which date to August of 1983. All of the original plastic parts are intact, with a three-ply white pickguard and uniformly aged pickup covers and knobs. The chrome-plated bridge base, jack cup, and JV-prefix neck plate have plenty of shine, with uniform patina on the bridge and jack cup. The vibrato has been upgraded with a full-size USA trem block and setup with five springs.Exceedingly well-kept, the very rare custom color Metallic Pink finish (referenced in the '83 catalog simpy by the "MP" abbreviation) is a bold shade of pink with the faintest dimensional microscopic metalflake. Wear is limited to a few faint scuffs on the back and minor marks on the body parameter, and the ambered gloss finish is smooth along the neck profile length.A USA-made Fender G&G Deluxe brown tolex hardshell case with gold interior is included.
