Up for sale, a 1983 Fender "JV" Jazz Bass ‘62 vintage reissue model JB62-75 in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and Japanese warranty card. Produced in the second year of Fender Japan instrument production, this "Japanese Vintage" (JV) series bass is a rare, higher-tiered model, with a gloss Olympic White finish, black bobbin pickups, cloth-covered leads, and vintage-spec hardware including long stem clover-button tuners and spiral bridge saddles. Initially offered only within Japan, this Jazz Bass has a resonant alder body and lively, round natural acoustic quality that translates well through the pickups.Medium weight for a Jazz Bass at 8lbs 13oz, the instrument has a strong fundamental punch, capable of great versatility. While the bridge pickup has the midrange presence and top end growl that often characterizes a Jazz Bass, the neck pickup can be equally smooth and round. These single coils complement each other very well, and rolling back the bridge pickup Volume and Master Tone knob a bit can yield a very pillowy and thick thump that sits well in the mix and provides the perfect foundation for a band. This Jazz Bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a very slender U-shaped profile carve at the nut, with a gentle increase in shoulder and overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .770” deep at the 1st fret and .935” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained slab with a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius and lightly rolled edges, refretted with flawless slender fretwire. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the replacement nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. The ambered peghead face sports a '62-style Fender Jazz Bass decal, and the back of the headstock has a third strap button, keeping things period correct down to the smallest details. The neck heel is pencil dated 6-29-83, and the “Made in Japan” text is present above the four-bolt neck plate. The original JV-prefix serial-embossed neck plate has been replaced, and the original serial was recovered from the factory documentation. All of the electronics function as intended, with a standard Jazz Bass control configuration and a trio of Japanese-made 250k pots. Hardware includes the original control plate and bridge with spiral saddles, and the chrome plating shows only light surface patina. Plastics comprise the original three-ply brown tortoise pickguard and trio of knobs. The gloss Olympic White finish exhibits plenty of honest playwear including extensive buckle rash and various dings and finish scratches. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with a handful of shallow nicks along the profile length that have no impact on playability. The original faux leather padded gigbag is included, along with the Japanese factory warranty card, which retains the model and serial info, and is dated to 83.9.28 (Sept. 28th, 1983).
