Up for sale, a 1983 Fender Jazzmaster '62 vintage reissue model JM66-70 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. The earliest example of a Fender Japan Jazzmaster we've ever encountered here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this instrument has an early A-prefix serial number and potentiometers that date to August of '83. Produced years before this guitar was first officially offered in Fender Japan's 1986 catalog, and designated as model JM66-70, this Jazzmaster hails from the golden age of "Made in Japan" production at the Fujigen factory.Weighing 7lbs 13oz, tonewoods comprise an alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, yielding a clear, balanced natural acoustic quality. The original alnico magnet pickups offer plenty of sparkle and cut, with a range of defined and powerful tones between the two coils. Warmer, wooly sounds are engaged via the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster features fresh 11-49 strings, dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation. The amber-tinted maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .895" at the 12th. The extremely dark rosewood fretboard has dot inlay and the original practically perfect slender vintage-style fretwire, ostensibly lightly dressed in the guitar's lifetime and retaining good height and crown. The guitar plays easily in every register up the 25 1/2" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius, and the bone nut measures 42mm (1.650") in width. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson-style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The small "70" sticker is intact on the back of the headstock, denoting the model tier and price of the guitar when sold new (70,000 yen), and the neck heel and pocket also have matching model markings. The "Made in Japan" designation is present at the heel just above the four-bolt neck plate which is embossed with an early A-prefix serial number. All of the electronics work as they should, and the Lead Circuit Tone pot is dated to August of 1983. Hardware includes the original vibrato unit and bridge with spiral saddles, and plastics comprise deeply yellowed pickup covers, knobs that show far lighter aging, and a dark brown tortoise pickguard with a particular color and pattern only used on the earliest Fender Japan models. The Olympic White gloss finish exhibits some small cosmetic splits in the gloss on the bass-side lower bout body edge, all smooth with the body contour with no lifting edges, and one small finish chip in this area as well. There is one finish scratch of note on the back, very light finish checking at the edges of the neck pocket, and some additional minor marks on the instrument as a whole, particularly where the forearm crosses the top. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh-flawless.The original, extremely early Fender Japan form-fit padded gigbag is included.***We are dealers for the M2 Mastery bridge, OMV-P Offset Vibrato, and Jazzmaster pickups from Curtis Novak and Lollar, any of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
