Up for sale, a 1983 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail electric guitar in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A collector-grade piece for those seeking one of the "Dan Smith" three-knob Stratocasters produced for only a couple years in the early '80s, this model marked the birth of the American Standard line and more importantly a new direction for the company as Fender strived to show a marked improvement in quality.Boasting the tonewood complement of a solid ash body, maple neck, and dark rosewood fingerboard, ensuring a lively, authoritative tonal response with great midrange heft and articulate treble snap. Via the trio of original alnico magnet single coils, the pickups offer bite and snap in the bridge position, with bell-like harmonics and richness in the neck position. The five-way switch makes it easy to capture those pinched tones in positions 2 and 4 on the five-way toggle with a bit of thinned out squawk. The guitar weighs 8lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a slender soft V profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .860” at the 12th. On the dark rosewood fretboard, the stock slender frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, showing sparingly little wear. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock retains the Schaller-made Fender 'F' tuners with immaculate chrome plating. It's worth noting that these tuners have a much improved gear ratio over the visually similar 'F' tuners used pre-1977 and are a high performance tuner capable of holding pitch well over long gigs and sessions. On the neck heel, the date stamp reads 2-10-83.The electronics are completely stock with untouched solder joints and pots that date back to the 4th week of 1982. The hardtail bridge has very clean chrome and there's a distinctly different sustain and power attributed to Hardtail Strats with good reason, as the string-through body design lets notes ring out with great clarity and body. The original black plastic parts are remarkably clean, as is the gloss Natural finish which highlights the broad grain of the ash body. The finish shows virtually no aging of the clear coat and the guitar is exceedingly well-kept with just a couple tiny nicks and very faint finish scratches on the back. The neck profile gloss is flawless.A modern Fender molded hardshell case with TSA latches is included.
