Up for sale, a 1982 Yamaha SG1500 in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, hangtag, and manual. Boasting the same neck through construction as the SG2000, which was known as the "Les Paul Killer" for numerous, very good reasons, the SG1500 is an incredibly well-crafted, versatile instrument. Boasting the top-tier features associated with Yamaha's SG series, the SG1500 features five-ply maple/mahogany neck through construction, patented as the T-Cross System, ensuring an incredibly stable, resonant, and tonally complex foundation for the instrument. Unique among the SG line, the neck through portion of the SG1500 can actually be seen from the top of the guitar, sandwiched by maple/mahogany body wings. This Yamaha was ahead of its time, and is perfect for the player who wants an array of classic rock tones with a versatility and reliability rarely seen in the Gibson equivalents from the same era.The tonewood combination translates well through the stock humbuckers, each with Push/Push coil splits on the Volume pots as well as a three-way pickup selector toggle. Rich, nuanced, and powerful, the SG1500, yields ample sustain and the kind of tonal detail and punch ideal for higher gain scenarios and crystalline clean tones alike. This SG1500 weighs 9lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, accurate intonation, and comfortable action. The neck has a fast and elegant-feeling medium C-shaped profile with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .915" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard is meticulously inlaid with pearloid split triangles, and the stock medium jumbo fretwire is flawless. The frets retain their full factory height with ample meat and well-rounded crowns, playing easily in all registers with a 14” fretboard radius. The scale length is 24 3/4”, and the 1 11/16" nut is hand-carved from bone, ensuring optimal note articulation and sustain. On the multi-ply bound headstock, the original Yamaha-stamped gold tuners turn very smoothly and the "SG1500" truss rod cover is present as well. All of the electronics function flawlessly and are untouched from the factory. The humbuckers have original date stamps on their baseplates, translating to the 57th year of the Showa period (1982). Yamaha even made special versions of the Gibson reflector cap knob style, with ridges around the edges that make the knobs easier to grasp and roll with your finger for quick swells and tone adjustments. The original bridge and ornate lyre-embossed stopbar are intact, and the gold hardware is positively gleaming. The gloss transparent Persimmon Red finish is extremely vibrant, with sparingly little of the finish clouding that plagues many Yamaha SGs. There's barely a scratch on the body, and the neck profile is also practically perfect save for one tiny shallow mark central to the carve behind fret 5 and not distracting to the palm in the slightest. This is the most perfectly preserved Yamaha SG to ever come through our shop, dialed in to play its best and complete with the original hardshell case, hangtag, and manual.
