Up for sale, a 1982 Yamaha SA2000 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of the best examples of premium Japanese craftsmanship put to the task of improving upon American design, the SA2000 uses Gibson's upscale ES models as a template.
The semi-hollow body features birch/beech construction, paired with a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a bound ebony fretboard for a tonewood combination that's full-sounding, airy, articulate, and versatile. The guitar weighs 9lbs 1oz, and has a clear and even sounding acoustic voice with ample natural resonance that translates well through the original pair of humbuckers. This Yamaha has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840" at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The bound ebony fretboard features split pearl block inlays and fret-edge binding on the original medium jumbo fretwire. The frets show just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, playing cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The hand-carved bone nut that measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the original Yamaha-branded gold tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the original electronics work as intended, with dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup. The original humbuckers have "SA" stamps on their baseplates with 57-prefix date codes signifying the year in Japan's Showa Era, specifically the 57th year of the reign of Emperor Hirohito, which was 1982. The original hardware has gold plating with some light wear on the forward edge of the bridge pickup cover and a dusting of patina on the lyre-embossed tailpiece and tune-o-matic bridge.
The gloss Burgundy finish is dark and rich, framed by multi-ply cream body binding. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to an area of light buckle rash at the waist on the back, and just a handful of tiny dings and faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is pristine.
The original Yamaha-branded hardshell case with gold plush interior is included.
