Up for sale, a 1982 Greco EGC68-50 "Black Beauty" LP Custom electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Crafted at the famed Fujigen factory in Japan during Greco's very brief window of "Super Real" production in the early '80s, this lawsuit era LP truly delivers the goods, with incredible attention to vintage Gibson spec. And while no legal action was taken against Greco for these guitars, Gibson did commission the same factory to make their "Orville" line of instruments which were exclusively sold within Japan.Clearly a direct response to the '68 Les Paul Custom, this model features a carved maple cap on a mahogany body, long neck tenon, full-size pots, and a hand-carved bone nut. It's a lively and powerful sounding instrument, and the craftsmanship is evident in the great playability and classic range of Les Paul tones. The pickups include a vintage Maxon-made Greco PAF-style humbucker in the bridge position, and a similar Japanese humbucker of unknown origin at the neck. The bridge pickup has a complex and detailed sound, with a touch of growl, sweet midrange, and focused bass response. The neck position humbucker delivers more girth and fullness, and it's an ideal sound for saturated lead lines. Weighing 9lbs 13oz, this Greco has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with slinky action, solid intonation, and 11-48 strings. The neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and ideal substance, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The neck features a bound rosewood fretboard, pearloid block inlay, and original medium jumbo fretwire with fret edge binding. The frets have their full factory height and plenty of meat, with light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-5. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the fretboard sports a 12” radius. The scale length is 24 3/4”, and the original hand-carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the guitar features a volute, multi-ply binding, Greco-branded gold keystone button tuners, and clean pearl inlays that vaguely mimic Gibson's split diamond look. All of the electronics work as they should, with original pots and tone caps. The full-size Japanese pots date to 1982, and Maxon-made bridge pickup has a dated baseplate from '76. The gold hardware shows light patina on the plating, and plastics include a quartet of ambered speed knobs. The gloss Ebony finish shows a few finish scuffs and minor dings on the back, with some requisite pick scuffing across the guard and extending to the knobs, and a few pinhead-sized marks on the bass-side lower bout on top. The neck profile retains its gloss, with some small scattered marks on the profile length, yet nothing distracting to the palm while fretting.A padded gigbag is included.
