Up for sale, a 1982 Fender Bullet Bass Deluxe B-34 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and Dakota Red gloss finish. Only available from 1981-83 as a replacement in Fender's bass lineup for both the Mustang and Musicmaster, the Bullet Bass Deluxe is a USA-made Fender with a full 34" scale and a split coil pickup with the same design and tonal character as the Mustang Bass. With an alder body and figured maple neck and fingerboard, this bass has a smooth, balanced tone with the articulation and note attack of maple and a warm, pleasing sound. There's enough low end thump to please fans of the Precision Bass, and enough midrange sweetness and push for players who like the Mustang Bass sound but crave Fender's traditional 34" scale. This Bullet is notably lightweight at only 7lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The neck shape is identical to the Fullerton reissue basses which Fender also introduced in '82, with a slender, fast-feeling shape that has minimal shoulder, giving the impression of a very soft V. The profile measures .790" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. The neck profile is also flawless and silky smooth, with the ambered gloss highlighting a speckling of birdseye figuring and light curly flame. The original slender frets are flawless, and the bass has a straight neck and ideally adjusted truss rod for easy playability in every register. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock retains the original chrome-plated tuning machines with clover buttons and a smooth response.
The electronics all function as intended, with untouched solder joints and original CTS pots which date to 1982. The chrome hardware, including the F neck plate, is positively gleaming, and the bright white one-ply pickguard is embossed with the "B-34" text, denoting the long scale (the Bullet Bass was also offered with a 30 scale). The slab body features a bold and original gloss Dakota Red finish with light buckle rash in the clear coat on the back and just a couple small finish chips on the body edges. As the photos can attest, this is an exceedingly well-kept and minimally played vintage Fender.
The original plastic molded Fender USA hardshell case is included. The case retains three out of its four stock latches along with the original handle.
