Up for sale, a 1982 Aria Pro II SB Black’n’Gold-II in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Crafted at the Matsumoku factory in Japan, this is easily among the rarest and most desirable Aria Pro II basses ever released: the single pickup version of this bass (the Black’n’Gold-I) is the iconic Cliff Burton bass, used by the Metallica legend throughout the Master of Puppets era. Sparingly few of those instruments were ever produced, and by all accounts (relatively little information is available on these basses both inside and outside of Japan) even fewer of these two-pickup versions were made. Premium features include maple/walnut neck-through construction with ash body wings, a pair of MB-II humbuckers with independent coil taps, and of course, a gloss Black finish accented by black/gold hardware.
The neck-through construction ensures terrific natural resonance and sonic authority, paired with the midrange push and growl inherent to the ash body wings, and this SB Black’n’Gold-II weighs 9lbs 12oz. The MB-II humbuckers offer ample output with big, powerful lows and plenty of punch, and there’s just enough treble grind to ensure optimal articulation and immediacy to cut through any mix, particularly with either of the independent two-way coil taps engaged. This SB Black’n’Gold-II has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.
