Up for sale, a 1981 Tokai Silver Star SS80 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of the more revered "lawsuit" vintage guitar brands, Tokai is known for making high-grade iterations of favored USA models, and this top-tier Silver Star Strat is their take on a ‘70s-style Stratocaster, featuring a gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish on a one-piece sen ash body, brass nut and saddles, and a trio of DiMarzio “Fat Strat” FS-1 single coil pickups.
This SS80 has a bold, lively acoustic response, with great natural midrange presence. The DiMarzio Fat Strat FS-1 pickups are (unsurprisingly) fat and punchy, delivering Strat-style sparkle and clarity with a touch more power and authority than most single coil designs. The bridge yields a focused twang, the neck is smooth and broad, and the “in-between” positions on the five-way pickup selector switch offer slinky thwack. This Silver Star SS80 weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
