Up for sale, a 1981 Tokai JB120 Jazz Sound β64 Model in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An extremely rare, top-tier Tokai model, the JB120 captures all the finer points of a Pre-CBS Fender, including a dark, tight-grained Brazilian rosewood fretboard. From the long-stem clover button tuners to the spiral bridge saddles and cashew lacquer finish, the JB120 can stand toe to toe with its Fender equivalents.
The bass offers a smooth acoustic tone with tight, round low end, healthy projection, and great clarity across all strings. Plugged in, the sound is bold and defined in the bass register, with an upper midrange burp and good top end articulation. With the bridge pickup singled out, the aggressive growl of the roundwound strings is on full display, with prominent cut and midrange presence. The neck pickup is naturally a bit fuller while still very articulate, thumping quite well with the tone rolled back a bit. With both of the pickups engaged it's easy to dial in the perfect balance of midrange presence and low end warmth. Weighing 9lbs 2oz, this Jazz Sound JB120 benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 40-95 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
