Up for sale, a 1980s Tokai Hard Puncher model PB60 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Expertly crafted in Japan for the Japanese market, this bass has all the hallmarks of the iconic Fender P-bass platform.The traditional tonewood complement includes an alder body and maple neck capped with a rosewood fretboard, ensuring smooth, balanced acoustic profile captured faithfully by the “PB-dynamic” split-coil pickup. The Hard Puncher has a clear note attack, sweet, defined midrange, and low end that really thumps. Well-balanced on a strap, this Tokai punches above its weight at 8lbs 9oz. We've had this Tokai dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.The maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .910” deep at the 1st fret and 1.005” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard retains the stock medium jumbo frets which have plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing light wear on frets 1-9. This bass plays cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The carved bone nut measures 1 5/8” in width. The headstock features a block “Hard Puncher” logo and clover-button tuners that hold pitch well. The small “60” sticker is present above the serialized four-bolt neck plate, denoting the model tier and the price of the PB60 when sold new (60,000 yen).The electronics work as intended, with the pickup governed by Master Volume and Tone knobs. Hardware includes a pair of knurled knobs and a four-saddle bridge, and all hardware has an even dusting of surface patina. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Olympic White finish includes a number of minor nicks and dings on the body, particularly on the lower bout edge, along with a small area of light buckle rash on the bass-side body horn. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth.A gigbag is included.
