Up for sale, a 1981 Tokai ES100R in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This ES100R is a premium example of the ES platform from the most coveted era of Tokai production, featuring the original pair of Goto S-stamp Patent Applied For humbuckers and a Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss finish.

Traditional tonewoods include a semi-hollow maple body with maple centerblock, a one-piece mahogany neck, and a bound rosewood fretboard. The "R" suffix on the model name stands for "Rock," as the ES100 model was offered in both ES100J (Jazz) and ES100R iterations, which dictated the pickup voicing. In-line with 1959 Gibson ES-335 spec, this guitar features numerous vintage-correct touches including the long pickguard (extending past the bridge), a no-wire ABR-1-style nickel-plated bridge and matching stopbar, an amber switch tip, and gold bonnet knobs.

The Goto (not to be confused with Gotoh) “Patent Applied For” humbuckers are, as the name would suggest, wound in the vein of the original PAF, metering around 8k ohms and delivering the sweet, singing clarity, tailored midrange clarity, and spongy low end of that iconic design. The bridge pickup has bite and bounce, and the neck pickup is full and warm while retaining excellent articulation. This ES100R weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish exhibits one roughly rectangular area of finish reaction on the back at the bass-side waist and a much fainter line in the clear coat on the treble-side of the back from contact with a strap in the case. Wear is otherwise limited to a few minor dings and scuffs from careful use, and pick scuffing across the guard. The gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless, with a couple tiny areas of light cloudiness in the clear coat.

The original hardshell case is included, along with the "Reborn Old" hangtag which notes the ES-100R model designation.
