Up for sale, a 1981 Ibanez MC-924DS Musician series bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Built from 1979-87, the Ibanez Musician basses were known for their use by artists ranging from Sting of The Police and Adam Clayton of U2, to John McVie of Fleetwood Mac.The MC924 features a full 34" scale length and neck through body design, with a neck comprising three pieces of maple reinforced with strips of walnut. The dark stained ash body wings sandwich a core of mahogany for a very complex and rich tone. Weighing 10lbs, 7oz, the bass has healthy natural sustain with thick low end, offering both ample growl and broad thump. The slab ebony fretboard ensures ideal note attack and treble articulation, and the commanding, detailed natural properties of this bass translate well through the pickups. The Super P5 pickup is an ideally placed split coil humbucker with a big burly sound, subtle growl, and tons of fullness. The J5 bridge pickup in contrast offers more attack and top end cut. This Ibanez has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action and accurate intonation. The neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The thick slab 24 fret ebony fretboard features abalone dot inlay and practically perfect medium jumbo frets. This bass plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The carved bone nut measures 1 9/16” in width. The headstock features a dark stained ash veneer with the original gold "Musician" truss rod cover. The VelveTune B II gold tuning machines (as the name would suggest) turn smoothly and hold pitch well. On the back of the headstock, the gold “Made in Japan” silkscreen script is intact and the L81-prefix serial number dates this bass to December, 1981.The electronics work exactly as intended, with both pickups wired to a center detent Blend knob that provides a smooth gradient between the two pickups as well as a Master Volume, passive Tone knob, and Treble, Mid, and Bass knobs. A mini toggle switch activates the active preamp/three-band EQ. Hardware includes the heavy duty top-loader Accu-cast B bridge, which retains its clean gold plating. All of the original knobs are intact. The gloss finish is abbreviated as "DS" in the Ibanez catalog for Dark Stain, and cosmetic wear is limited to a scant few minor scratches and dings on the body as a whole, and a couple small finish chips adjacent to the input jack. The finish on the neck profile is pristine. The original brown tolex hardshell case with form-fit green plush interior is included.
