Up for sale, a 1981 Greco EG700G Super Sound LP-Style Goldtop in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A higher tiered model produced at the pinnacle of vintage Greco craftsmanship under the Super Real umbrella, the Super Sounds EG700G was made at the famed Fujigen factory in Japan and does an excellent job of capturing the finer points of classic Les Paul design. All the essential tonal ingredients are present including a solid two-piece maple cap, mahogany body, and one-piece mahogany neck with a chunky '50s-style profile carve. Cosmetic refinements include nickel-plated hardware, Greco Deluxe tuners with translucent keystone buttons, and gold bonnet knobs.

This Greco retains its original pair of Maxon-made PU-2 humbucking pickups which have a distinctive richness and treble clarity. These pickups are sensitive to picking dynamics, with an authoritative growl and cut in the bridge position, while the neck pickup is smooth and round. Weighing 9lbs 1oz, this Greco has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has a carve very representative of a ’59 neck shape with full shoulders and good chunk, yet shy of mid-50s “baseball bat” heft, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and 1.005” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, fret edge binding, and the original medium jumbo frets which retain their full factory height with virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 ¾” scale with a straight neck and responsive, well-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports the iconic “open book” shape, and there are a pair of finish chips on the headstock veneer adjacent to the high E tuner. The original Greco Deluxe-branded single ring Kluson-style tuners are present, along with the inked serial number and EG700 foil sticker.

On the body, all the electronics function as intended, with dedicated Volume and Tone controls for each PU-2 humbucker and a three-way pickup selector. The solder joints are untouched, with premium tone caps and full-size pots that date to August of ‘80. The humbuckers are embossed with the PU-2 model designation, with six digit ink stamps that translate to January of ‘81. Hardware comprises the ABR-1 style Tune-o-Matic bridge and corresponding stoptail, both of which show a light but consistent dusting of patina across the nickel plating. Plastics include cream pickup rings and switch surround, along with a quartet of gold bonnet knobs (three of which are original to the guitar).

The Goldtop gloss finish shows some light oxidation on the edges of the top, and some checking surrounding the neck pickup Volume knob from impact. There are some minor finish scratches and dings on the back, and a few chips in the gloss on the lower bout body edge. The gloss finish on the neck profile is particularly clean.

A brown faux leather gigbag is included.
