Up for sale, a 1981 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original “chainsaw” case and loaded with Tim Shaw PAFs. Tonewoods include a carved three-piece maple top, mahogany body, three-piece maple neck, and bound rosewood fingerboard, weighing 10lbs 13oz.
There’s plenty of natural resonance, muscle, and treble sweetness on tap, providing an ideal platform for the pair of Tim Shaw PAF humbuckers. These pickups represent Gibson's first attempt at recreating the magic of their late '50s humbucker design. Offered for only a few short years in the '80s, the Shaws are designed with unoriented, rough cast Alnico V magnets, plastic spacers, and poly-coated wire, achieving the harmonic complexity, power, and tonal clarity of the original PAF. This Les Paul Standard has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Tobacco Sunburst nitro lacquer finish highlights subtle birdseye figuring in the central third of maple on top, and cosmetic wear includes buckle rash across the back, a few small finish chips along the lower bout perimeter, and some minor dings on the body as a whole. Palm wear through the gloss on the neck profile has resulted in a smooth, satin feel behind frets 2-10.
The original molded hardshell “chainsaw” case is included.
