Up for sale, a 1981 Gibson G-3 bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This uncommon Gibson bass was introduced as a companion bass to the better-known Grabber, featuring a trio of Bill Lawrence-designed single coil pickups and a satin-finished three-piece maple body, seen in the hands of artists including John Entiwistle and Mike Dirnt.
The all-maple construction yields plenty of sustain, note attack and punch, and this Grabber weighs 10lbs 1oz. The Bill Lawrence single coil pickups were designed to have a “bright/low” tone, delivering a blend of low end heft and top end articulation. These warm, rumbling pickups are wired in out-of-phase pairs at positions 1 and 3 on the pickup selector switch, resulting in a humbucking quality with great fullness, and the middle position is the unique “buck and a half” sound, with all three pickups engaged (middle out-of-phase from neck and bridge), yielding a distinctive sound that cuts through a mix with a particularly present upper midrange and fat low end. This G-3 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.

The smooth satin Natural nitro lacquer finish has ambered uniformly, with prominent "tan lines" beneath the pickguard and where the bridge cover was previously affixed. Cosmetic wear is limited to light scuffing along the pick path, a few finish scratches on the back, and a few tiny nicks on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth satin finish, free of palm wear.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included. The case is equally as clean as the bass, with functional latches, the original handle, and Gibson silkscreen on the lid.
