Out Of Stock
Up for sale, a 1981 Fender Precision Bass in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and warranty card. Produced at the Fullerton factory in the last few years of the original USA-made Precision Bass production run, this Fender features a solid ash body with a Natural finish paired with a one-piece maple neck. The bass delivers the round, fundamental punch and complex midrange content of ash and the articulate treble detail of the maple board, all while retaining plenty of broad, muscly low end character. Weighing 9lbs 7oz, this Precision has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a chunky U profile carve at the nut, with substantial shoulder and fractionally more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .875” deep at the 1st fret and .905” at the 12th. The original frets are intact and practically perfect, playing cleanly in every register up the straight neck. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, the perfect middle ground for players that want a neck that's easy to navigate yet still has a bit of width and substance. The headstock sports original Fender-branded clover button tuners and the S9 prefix serial number.

The simple electronics work as they should with untouched solder joints and CTS pots which date to the 6th week of '81. The gray bobbin pickup retains its original windings and viable height adjustment foam, with a clean stamp on the baseplate which matches the pots with an '81 date. The chrome plating on the hardware is positively gleaming, including the original pair of "ashtray" covers. The original three-ply black pickguard is intact with clean original shielding tape on the back.

The original Natural gloss finish shows light ambering in the clear coat of the gloss, and the body shows just a few small nicks and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole. The finish is fractionally more semi-gloss on the back body edges from contact with the case lining over time. It's a true case queen! The neck profile gloss is exceedingly clean and un-ambered with just a tiny bit of palm wear on the fretboard edges, particularly the treble side.

The original Fender USA black molded hardshell case is included along with the original warranty card.
