Up for sale, a 1981 Fender Precision Bass in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtag and hardshell case. An extremely tidy factory fretless example with a rosewood fingerboard and gloss Black finish, this sleek vintage Fender P bass is particularly well-kept and 100% original save for a genuine Fender replacement three-ply black pickguard. The bass delivers thick, articulate low end thump and roundness, pairing the note attack and midrange complexity of the solid ash body with the sweetness and warmth of the rosewood fretboard. An ideal confluence of tonewoods, the smooth sound and round fundamental presence of the bass is accentuated by a set of flatwound 45-100 strings, qualities which translate faithfully through the original gray bobbin split coil pickup. The bass weighs 9lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action.

The maple neck has a very round, inviting C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders, quite a bit of heft, and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860" deep at the nut and .975" at the octave. The fingerboard is extremely clean with no wear into the rosewood, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the original Fender Precision Bass block logo is present on the headstock face. The original tuning machines with large clover buttons are present too, functioning as intended with nigh flawless gleaming chrome plating. All of the proper factory stamps are present on the neck heel and in the pocket, including an S9-prefix serial sticker in the pocket which matches the serial on the headstock face. A similar sticker in the pocket dates the bass to '81.

All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints on the gray bobbin pickup and original CTS pots which date to the 11th week of 81. Hardware includes the stock knurled knobs and four-saddle bridge, complete with original chrome "ashtray" cover. The gloss Black finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, exhibiting a few isolated lines of very light wear into the gloss on the lower bout on top and extending to the back, ostensibly from a strap the bass sat on in the case for a lengthy period of time. There are just a few additional tiny nicks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole, and the neck profile gloss is equally clean and unambered, showing only a few shallow marks on the profile length.

The original black molded hardshell case with large "Fender USA" logo on the exterior is included, and the case features original latches and handle. The original manual hangtag is also included.
