Up for sale, a 1981 Aria Pro II Thor Sound TSB-650 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Made at the Matsumoku factory in Japan, this Aria Pro II is a top-quality instrument crafted with elegant five-ply neck through body construction and loaded with a pair of MB-III humbuckers. The neck through maple/walnut construction is mated to ash body wings and capped with a slab rosewood fingerboard for a rich, complex tone with near endless sustain that marries the immediate response of maple with the midrange fullness and note attack of ash. The brass nut and robustly built brass bridge add further articulation and top-end growl to the sound, qualities accentuated by a set of 45-100 roundwound strings. And with dedicated two-way Dual Sound switches for each humbucker offering series/parallel operation, the TSB-650 is an impressive instrument indeed. The bass is well-balanced on a strap, notably lightweight given its construction at only 8lbs 2oz. We've had this Aria professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, dialed in for comfortable action and spot-on intonation. The neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and a gentle increase in overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features medium jumbo fretwire which exhibits a touch of wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-7. This bass plays cleanly up the 32 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the brass nut measures a full 1 3/4“ in width. The headstock features Aria Pro II-branded low mass tuning machines ensure no neck dive and smooth, reliable performance. The electronics function as intended, with stacked Volume/Tone knobs for each humbucker and a pair of two-way Dual Sound mini toggles for series/parallel switching on the individual pickups. The oversized brass bridge is inset into the body and exhibits a light dusting of patina, and the top has a subtle dished carve for the input jack. Additionally, the body edges are lightly contoured for comfort and feel.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Walnut finish is limited to a handful of minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the lower bout perimeter and back, with a small cluster of pinhead-sized dings on the top at the bass-side waist. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.A Yamaha-branded faux leather gigbag is included.
