Up for sale, a 1981 Aria Pro II “Super Bass” SB-1000 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Made at the Matsumoku factory in Japan, this Aria Pro II is a top-quality instrument crafted with an elegant neck through body. The SB series has been esteemed by a pedigree of legendary bassists including Cliff Burton, John Taylor, Rudy Sarzo, Jack Bruce, and Marcus Miller.
The smoothly sculpted neck-through body construction offers superb sustain as well as unbeatable access to the upper frets, with a five-ply maple/walnut neck and ash body wings. The stock MB-1 double coil pickup has ample output, and the “B.B. Circuit” is an active EQ that provides six different shades of focused midrange. Weighing 10lbs, this SB-1000 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.
The maple/walnut neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .870” deep at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The thick slab jacaranda rosewood fretboard sports dot inlay, and the medium jumbo fretwire is nigh flawless. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the brass nut measures 1 3/4“ in width. The elongated headstock has an inked serial number, dating to 1981 and of a serial style consistent with Matsumoku production. The Aria Pro II-branded tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.
On the body, the electronics function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone controls and a mini toggle switch to engage the active six way “B.B. Circuit," powered by two 9V batteries. The original knobs are all present. The heavy duty bridge is positively over-built, inset into the body with wear through the gold plating.
The Natural gloss finish exhibits a couple finish chips and some dings on the body perimeter, with just a handful of additional minor marks and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
