Up for sale, a 1981 Aria Pro II RS-X80 vintage neck-through electric guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. Produced in Japan at the Matsumoku factory, this RS series guitar features five-piece maple and walnut neck-through construction with Canadian ash body wings and the original pair of USA-made DiMarzio Dual Sound humbuckers, crafted in the vein of the Super Distortion. Engineered for high gain, the pickups offer a range of rip-roaring tonalities with ample output, midrange push, and a lightly compressed response that is perfect for chunky rhythm playing and fat lead work. To top things off, the active Xtronics-1 circuit delivers a plethora of tone-sculpting and switching options. This Aria Pro II weighs 8lbs 5oz and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, accurate intonation, and comfortable action.
The maple/walnut neck has a rounded slender C shaped profile with good shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .780” deep at the 1st fret and .910” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features pearl oval inlay with alternating black dots, and the original medium jumbo frets are intact. The frets have good heat and meat with well-rounded crowns, showing a touch of wear under the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-6, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The scale length is 24 3/4“, and the brass nut measures 1 11/16“ in width. On the headstock, the Aria Pro II tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, the original electronics all function as intended. Controls consist of a Master Volume, Master Tone, three-way Pickup Selector toggle, neck pickup Dual Sound switch, bridge pickup Dual Sound switch, Phase Reverse, three-way Boost switch, Boost Volume, and Over Booster Volume. All of the original knobs are intact, barring the cream chickenhead Boost Mode selector, which matches the upgraded cream bobbin DiMarzio Super Distortion humbuckers. The positively over-built bridge is inset into the body and combined with the brass nut, the solid, snappy, sustaining qualities of this guitar achieve their full potential. The transparent Padauk Red gloss finish is in great shape, with cosmetic wear limited to faint scuffing in the pick path and on the treble side lower bout edge. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.
A hardshell case is included.
