Up for sale, a 1980s Yamaha YSG-1 in near-mint, 100% original condition and perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Produced from ‘88-’90, this YSG model is quite rare, sold only to the Japanese domestic market
Tonewoods consist of a mahogany body and carved maple top, paired with a mahogany neck and bound ebony fretboard, producing a powerful, articulate natural acoustic response with a glassy treble clarity. The pickups, a pair of LIVE humbuckers, have a driving, hot sound with plenty of midrange presence, shimmer, and bite, metering at ~9.3k ohms. The neck pickup has more warmth and fullness, while the bridge has an aggressive cut with tight low end. The tonal palette is further expanded by the inclusion of a Push/Push global coil tap on the Master Tone control, delivering snappy single coil sparkle. The LIVE humbuckers also take drive notably well, remaining articulate while sounding absolutely huge. This Yamaha weighs 8lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a medium depth C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder in every register, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The 24 fret bound ebony fretboard features the original Dunlop 6100 jumbo fretwire which retains its full factory height and shows virtually no wear. This YSG-1 plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. On the headstock, the Kluson-style gold tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock has an 8J-prefix serial number and “Made in Japan” text.
On the body, all the electronics work as intended with the pickups wired into the three-way selector switch and governed by a unique control configuration comprising a Master Volume, neck pickup Blend, and Master Tone knob. The gold hardware includes a TSG-1G Tune-o-Matic style bridge and corresponding tailpiece, as well as brass pickup rings. The original trio of gold speed knobs are also in exceptional condition. Cosmetic wear on the instrument is almost nonexistent, with only a scant few light scratches on the surface of the faintly transparent See Thru Black finish across the picking path and on the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original hardshell case with raised Yamaha badge is included, along with strap locks.
