1980s Yamaha Broad Bass BB3000 Vintage Neck Through PJ Bass Guitar Candy Apple Red, Japan

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1980s Yamaha Broad Bass BB3000 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan, the Broad Bass BB3000 model features five-ply maple/mahogany neck through construction with alder body wings, yielding a particularly resonant and deep natural response. The stock PJ pickup configuration features the best of two of the most enduringly popular bass pickup designs, with a broad thump via the split coil P pickup and great articulation and upper-midrange presence and burp from the powerful bridge position J-style single coil. Weighing 8lbs 15oz, this BB3000 has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with comfortable action and roundwound 45-100 strings.

The five-ply maple/mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and faint rolling of the fretboard edges from contact with the palm, measuring .800” deep at the 1st fret and .945“ at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features elliptical pearl inlay and pristine original medium jumbo frets which have decent grooves beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-5, with wear growing lighter and extending to fret 9. The scale length is a full 33 7/8”, and the nut measures 1 9/16“ in width, made of brass and adding to the instrument's sustain and note articulation. On the headstock, the Yamaha BB3000 logo is present along with the original set of gold tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

All of the electronics work as they should, with a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls for the pair of stock PJ pickups. The original pair of black speed knobs with grippy, ridged edges are intact, and hardware includes the four saddle bridge with spiral saddles and gold pickup surrounds. The gold hardware shows notable surface patina and cosmetic wear on the Candy Apple Red gloss finish includes buckle rash across the back, one large finish chip on the treble side, lower bout body edge, and some additional marks of honest wear, largely relegated to the back and body perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with some minor marks on the profile length.

A gigbag is included.
