Up for sale, an early 1980s Yamaha Broad Bass BB2000 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Crafted in Japan, the Broad Bass BB2000 model features five-ply maple/mahogany neck-through construction with alder body wings and a slab ebony fretboard, yielding a particularly resonant and deep natural response. The PJ pickup configuration features the best of two of the most enduringly popular bass pickup designs, with a broad thump via the split coil P pickup and great articulation and upper-midrange presence and burp from the powerful bridge position J-style blade single coil. Weighing 9lbs 15oz, this BB2000 has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with comfortable action and roundwound 45-100 strings. The five-ply maple/mahogany neck has a full C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .875” deep at the 1st fret and .995“ at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features elliptical pearloid inlay and original medium jumbo frets which have plenty of meat, showing only very light wear beneath the strings on frets 1-5. The scale length is a full 33 7/8”, and the bone nut measures 1 9/16” in width. On the headstock, the original set of tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the electronics work as they should, with a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls for the pair of stock PJ pickups. The original pair of black speed knobs with grippy, ridged edges are intact, and hardware includes the lyre-embossed chrome-plated four saddle bridge. This is a notably well-kept vintage bass, with cosmetic wear on the gloss Natural finish limited to just a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine. The original Yamaha-branded hardshell case is included.
