1980s Tokai Hard Puncher TPB45 P Bass Vintage Electric Bass Guitar Black, Japan

Up for sale, a 1980's Tokai Hard Puncher P-Bass model TPB45 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original faux leather gigbag. Evoking everything we love about the Fender Precision Bass, this Tokai is a rare, early Japanese made iteration with a lightweight ash body, chunky maple neck, and traditional "PB-Dynamic" split coil pickup. The Hard Puncher has a clear note attack, sweet, defined midrange, and low end that really thumps. The bass is well-balanced on a strap and punches above its weight at 9lbs. We've had this Tokai dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 45-105 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a modestly chunky C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The stock frets are just shy of medium jumbo and offer plenty of meat, showing only light uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-5 and virtually no wear further up the maple fretboard. The scale length is a full 34", and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The headstock features clover button tuners that turn very smoothly, showing uniform surface patina. On the body, the simple electronics function as intended with Master Volume and Tone knobs governing the stock split coil pickup. The knurled chrome knobs and four-saddle top loader bridge are intact, and the three-ply black pickguard shows some requisite scuffing across the pick path. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish includes buckle rash and light scattered nicks and finish scratches mostly relegated to the back and body parameter. There are also two additional mounting holes in the body from a previous thumb rest position. The neck sports a clean gloss finish with just a few minuscule marks that are not distracting to the palm. The original fitted faux leather gigbag is included.
