Up for sale, a 1980s Tokai Hard Puncher P Bass PB model in perfect working order, upgraded with a DiMarzio split coil pickup and a Badass II bridge. Tonewoods include an ash body and one-piece maple neck, ensuring plenty of detail, note attack and midrange heft, qualities faithfully translated by the upgraded DiMarzio split coil pickup. Metering just over 11k ohms, the DiMarzio has a rich, harmonically-complex sound with excellent articulation and low end power, offering more width and smooth thump with the Tone knob rolled back to taste. This bass weighs 9lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .900” deep at the 1st fret and 1.025” at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets are in great shape with plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the strings on frets 1-3. This bass plays cleanly up the full 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock carved bone nut measures 42mm (1.650”) in width. The headstock sports a block Hard Puncher logo and clover button tuners that turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, displaying a light dusting of surface patina.

On the body, the electronics function as intended with the DiMarzio pickup wired to an upgraded harness with full-size Cosmos pots and a MKP1845 propylene film cap. Notably clean chrome-plated hardware includes the flat-top knurled knobs and the upgraded Badass Bass II heavy-duty top-loader bridge, designed to improve sustain and stability. The three-ply pickguard and “DiMarzio”-embossed pickup covers round out the plastics.

The gloss Candy Apple Red finish is bright and bold, and cosmetic wear includes a patch of buckle rash at the waist on the back, light forearm wear on the bass-side lower bout body edge, and a number of faint scratches and dings on the body as a whole, largely concentrated on the lower bout on the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and fast in the palm, with a handful of shallow dings along the profile length that have no impact on playability.

A Tune-brand padded gigbag is included.
