Up for sale, a 1980s Tokai Breezysound TTE-50 BLR in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and warranty card. Made in Japan between 1985-87, this vintage guitar is a faithful, high-quality spin on the classic Fender Tele platform. The tonewood complement consists of an alder body, maple neck, and a rosewood fretboard, delivering a balanced and smooth natural acoustic quality. The original TE-Vintage Mk. II single coil pickups deliver bell-like clarity and snap at the neck position, chewy twang at the bridge, and a chiming, focused sound with both pickups engaged. Weighing 7lbs 10oz, this Tokai has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining some additional heft further up the fretboard, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and retains the stock slender fretwire. The frets are in great shape with well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-6. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The headstock sports a vintage T-Style shape and mid-80s Tokai waterslide decal, retaining all but one of the original Tokai Deluxe Kluson-style tuners (the replacement tuner matches the style and footprint of the original exactly).
On the body, the stock electronics work as they should, with cloth-covered leads, full-size Noble pots and a green chiclet tone cap. The pickups are governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs. The flat-topped knobs and bridge saddles have an even dusting of surface patina, while the control plate and Tokai-stamped bridge base have notably clean chrome plating.
The alder body has a semi-transparent Butterscotch Blonde finish with the grain of the alder subtly peeking through, accented by a three-ply white pickguard. Cosmetic wear includes a number of nicks and small finish chips along the body perimeter, with some additional minor marks on the lower bout on top and an area of light buckle rash on the back central to the waist. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with a handful of shallow marks along the profile length that have no impact on playability.
The original faux leather gigbag is included, along with the original warranty card.
