Up for sale, a Roland SH-101 monophonic bass synthesizer, fully serviced and in excellent condition. Landing sonically somewhere between the TB-303 and a Juno bass, the SH-101 has an array of user-friendly features. The SH-101 features one oscillator with three simultaneous waveforms: sawtooth, square/pwm, and an octave-divided square sub-oscillator. Offering a low-pass filter/VCF capable of self oscillation (and the ability to select noise as a modulation source for both pitch and the filter), the self oscillation filter can even be used to make bass deep, punchy drum sounds. The controls are simple to use as there is a slider or switch available for every single parameter, and in addition to an external trigger input to control the speed of the sequencer or the arpeggiator, the SH-101 boasts CV/GATE inputs and outputs, and a CV hold pedal option.
The LFO offers random, sine, square or noise waveforms, and the normal or auto portamento effects give you that elastic bass sound. A white noise generator, arpeggiator with up, down and up/down patterns and a simple real-time sequencer are included. The pitch bender offers control of the VCF, pitch, and LFO.
Being an all-analog synth, there is no patch memory storage, and even though a built-in MIDI control is absent, there are upgrades available to incorporate it into any MIDI studio environment. It can also be controlled by MIDI using a CV/MIDI converter. A shoulder strap can be connected, with a small handgrip that can be plugged into the side, transforming this synth into a “keytar”, enabling one to finally look those guitarists directly in the eyes.
Having been used by acts such as the Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, and Boards of Canada, a wave of SH-101 clones and software emulations have since flooded the market. Here’s a chance to own the real deal, all-analog, classic '80s synthesizer, fully serviced by our in-house techs and extremely clean cosmetically. All of the original slider caps and knobs are present, and the synth shows sparingly little wear on the enclosure.
