Up for sale, a 1980s Morris WJ-100SK jumbo in exceptional, 100% original condition, complete with the original hardshell case. This expertly crafted guitar was made in Japan, very rarely seen outside (or inside) its country of origin. It’s a unique spin on Gibson’s J-180 “Everly Brothers” platform, boasting dual pickguards and distinctive star inlay.Best described as a slightly scaled down version of Gibson's venerable J-200, this Morris WJ-100SK Jumbo features a 16" lower bout width, 24 3/4" scale length, and 4 3/8" body depth. Tonewoods include a lightly figured spruce top, maple back and sides finished in a rich walnut gloss, and a mahogany neck capped with a bound ebony fingerboard. Tonally, this Morris offers the cut and power of the jumbo body, and there's a certain glassy immediacy to the sound attributable in part to the ebony fingerboard. The low end is nice and gutsy when you dig in hard with a flatpick, and this Morris is a rewarding strummer with plenty of projection. The guitar weighs 4lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-53 strings and comfortable action. The mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and .920” at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard has 14 frets clear of the body, featuring pearloid star inlays and flawless medium fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 9/16” in width, and the headstock is framed by multi-ply binding, with gold-plated waffle-back tuners that turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The spruce top has abalone binding as well as an abalone rosette, framed by the unique dual pickguards. The ebony bridge sits flush with the top, and the saddle has plenty of height. Crack-free and exceedingly well-kept, cosmetic wear on the gloss finish is limited to a scant few microscopic nicks and faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine. The original hardshell case is included.
