Up for sale, a 1980s Kawai F1 12 string electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An extremely rare and versatile vintage Japan-made 12 string with an active preamp, this F1 boasts five-ply neck through maple and mahogany construction, with a carved maple top and back on the body sandwiching a mahogany core. The double cream bobbin humbuckers are akin to Dimarzio's Super Distortion pickups in their clarity, power, and tonal breadth, and the active preamp offers a particularly wide range of tones. The six-way Varitone switch toggles between the full, unaltered signal, and five settings offering various pinched, midrange-focused, and percussive sounds well-suited to the 12 string design. A two-way global Coil Tap mini toggle eliminates the inner coil of each humbucker in the down position, and a two-way Phase coil tap delivers a more peaked and slightly thinned out nasally cut with both humbuckers engaged, yet without sacrificing the body and muscle of the pickups.Of the three black speed knobs, the forward control is the Master Volume and the back knob is the Master Tone. Fitted between these controls is the active preamp with a two-way on/off mini toggle and separate two-way switch toggling between Distortion and Boost. The central knob blends in the boosted signal, and it’s an extremely powerful effect with significant gain while retaining the chiming clarity and treble-centric cut of the 12 string. There is little difference between Boost and Distortion, and both settings offer ample power. This Kawai weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh strings and easy-playing action. The neck has a round medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 12th. The dark slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard has pearloid snowflake inlay and flawless original medium jumbo fretwire, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and the headstock has an exotic hardwood veneer (possibly zebrawood), topped with a gold Kawai decal. The Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the electronics function as intended, and the controls operate as follows:- Preamp on/off mini toggle (9v powered)- Preamp Level- Boost/Distortion mini toggle- Six-way Varitone- Coil tap mini toggle- Phase mini toggleHardware includes the harmonica-style bridge and stopbar with gleaming chrome plating, and plastics comprise the original knobs and uniformly aged pickup rings. Cosmetic wear on the gloss finish is limited to faint wear in the clear coat behind the bridge from a previously removed sticker, and just a few very minor dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.A gigbag is included.
