Up for sale, a 1980s Kawai F-1 Jr in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This rare, expertly-crafted Japanese guitar clearly takes its design cues from Alembic, featuring neck-through construction with a five-piece maple/mahogany neck, ash body wings, and a rosewood fretboard.

The double cream bobbin humbuckers offer a combination of clarity, power, and tonal breadth. The neck position is full-sounding while retaining excellent articulation, and the bridge is hyper detailed and authoritative. Each humbucker also has a dedicated coil tap mini toggle for single coil sparkle and spank. This Kawai weighs 7lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The five-ply maple/mahogany neck has a substantial C-shaped profile carve with good shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .875” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The 24-fret thick slab rosewood fretboard sports a 9 1/2“ radius, and the original stainless steel medium jumbo fretwire exhibits virtually no wear. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. The headstock sports an exotic hardwood veneer, along with a carved wooden truss rod cover, and the original tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by independent Volume knobs and a Master Tone control, plus a three-way pickup selector switch and a pair of three-way coil tap mini toggles. The chrome-plated hardware has plenty of shine, including the knurled knobs, harmonica-style tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece.

The gloss Natural finish highlights the notably straight, tight grain in the ash body wings, with cosmetic wear limited to just a scant few tiny dings and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
