Up for sale, an early 1980's Fernandes FST-120 The Function Limited Edition electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. The top-tier model in Fernandes' FST lineup, this model is directly inspired by Schecter's Dream Machine, with the same three-way mini-toggle setup to govern the trio of pickups, which are faithfully modeled after the Schecter Monstertones. Tonewoods include a Walnut-finished sen body, maple neck, and dark 22 fret rosewood fingerboard.
Not your garden variety single coil or humbucker, the trio of L-5002T wax-potted alnico magnet pickups have a dual coil design, not stacked, but with one coil surrounding the other. As such, you can "coil tap" these pickups to achieve traditional single coil glassy cut, or use the full windings on the pickup bobbin for hot output and a range of powerful, bold tonalities. The trio of three-way mini toggles independently switch each pickup between on/off/tapped, and 27 distinct pickup and coil combinations can be achieved via this player-friendly and deceptively simple control array. Weighing 8lbs 4oz, this Fernandes has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, accurate intonation, and comfortable action.
The stained maple neck has a medium V shaped profile with lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .885” deep at the 1st fret and .925” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features pearloid dot inlay and pristine fretwire just shy of medium jumbo. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard radius is 7 1/4“, the scale length is a full 25 1/2“, and the 1 5/8" wide nut is machined from brass, ensuring ideal top end detail and sustain. On the headstock, the gold double-line Kluson-style Fernandes Deluxe-branded tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, the electronics are 100% original and function as intended, with individual three-way on/off/coil tap mini toggles for each pickup along with Master Volume and Tone knobs. The underside of the pickguard and the pickup cavities have original brass shielding tape, ensuring the best possible noise floor. The bridge has large brass saddles, and the gold hardware shows light surface patina. Cosmetic wear is limited to faint scuffing at the treble side of the pick path with faith marks mostly relegated to the body edges. The neck sports a pristine smooth semi gloss finish.
A gigbag is included.
