Up for sale, a circa 1980 Fernandes FPM-80 "Bomber Bass" neck through double P Bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Particularly rare and only produced from roughly 1978-80, this bass features exceptional Japanese craftsmanship with a rich, broad acoustic tone and smooth, rumbling low end accentuated by the punch and articulation of the split coil pickups. An absolutely thunderous sounding instrument, the large brass saddles and aluminum nut increase the top end articulation, and the seven-ply maple/walnut neck through construction yields incredible sustain, with the midrange complexity and heft offered by the ash body wings. The bass weighs 9lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlay and jumbo fretwire which has plenty of meat with its full factory height, showing virtually no wear. The scale length is a full 34", and the aluminum nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The headstock has Fernandes' "stone logo," and the original clover button tuners have clean plating and a very smooth, reliable response.
The electronics work as intended, with dedicated Volume knobs and a Master Tone control governing the pickup pair. All original hardware is intact, with patina on the brass string through body bridge and trio of domed knurled knobs. The Natural gloss finish highlights the grain on the ash body wings, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few faint finish scratches on the back and a bit of light localized pick wear on the treble side of the pick path. The gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth.
The original form-fit faux leather gigbag is included.
