Up for sale, a 1980s Charvel by Jackson Model 2M in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a molded hardshell case. Made at the Chu Shin factory in Japan as part of a licensing agreement between IMC and Charvel/Jackson, this no-frills Superstrat features a solitary J-90C ceramic humbucker, a single Volume knob, and a Floyd Rose-licensed TRS-101 tremolo.
The tonewood complement features a quartersawn rock maple neck and a basswood body, and the acoustic sound of this guitar is immediate and articulate, perfect for the high gain crunch of the J-90C ceramic humbucker. Metering at a whopping 15.15k ohms, this high-power pickup has screaming highs and tight, aggressive lows. Weighing 8lbs 10oz, this Model 2M has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.
The quartersawn rock maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and a fast feel, measuring .770” deep at the 1st fret and .885” at the 12th. The slab maple fretboard has a compound 12-16” radius, and the jumbo fretwire is practically perfect. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width, just ahead of the locking nut on the headstock, holding steady against even the deepest divebombs via the TRS-101 tremolo. On the headstock, the stock “Jackson”-stamped black Gotoh-made tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.
The simple electronics function as intended, with the pickup governed by a solitary Volume knob. The Floyd Rose-licensed TRS-101 tremolo actuates smoothly and snaps quickly back to pitch, and this popular Takeuchi-made tremolo appeared on scores of Japanese shredders including guitars from Ibanez, Washburn, Fernandes, and Yamaha.
The gloss Vintage Ivory finish exhibits light buckle wear on the back at the belly contour and just a handful of minor dings and faint scratches on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the lower bout perimeter and back. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile exhibits just a scant few shallow nicks along the profile length that don't distract the palm while fretting.
A modern SKB-branded molded hardshell case is included.
