Up for sale, a 1980s Charvel by Jackson Model 2 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a molded hardshell case. Made at the Chu Shin factory in Japan as part of a licensing agreement between IMC and Charvel/Jackson, this no-frills Superstrat features an upgraded Seymour Duncan JB humbucker, a single Volume knob, and a Kahler 2520 Traditional Fulcrum Tremolo.

The locking tremolo and slab rosewood fretboard differentiate the Model 2 from the Model 1, and this guitar features a quartersawn maple neck and basswood body. The sound is immediate and clear, with the added warmth of the rosewood board, providing an ideal acoustic platform for the upgraded Seymour Duncan JB humbucker. Seymour Duncan’s most popular pickup of all time, the SH-4 JB is the original hot-rodded humbucker. It’s a high output pickup, delivering a rich, versatile tone with full, powerful lows, crisp and detailed highs, and an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords and translates to a singing, vocal-like quality for melodic playing. This Model 2 weighs 7lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The quartersawn rock maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders in every register, measuring .785” deep at the 1st fret and .885” deep at the 12th. The thick slab 22 fret rosewood fretboard features a 12-16” compound radius, and the jumbo fretwire is nigh flawless. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The locking nut measures 1 11/16” in width, holding steady against deep dives via the Kahler tremolo. On the headstock, the stock “Jackson”-stamped black Gotoh-made tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The four-bolt neck plate is a replacement.

All the electronics function as intended, with a single Volume knob governing the upgraded Seymour Duncan JB humbucker, and the harness features a replacement full-size pot. This particular JB was wound by the venerable “Queen of the SD Custom Shop,” Maricela Juarez, as identified by the additional “J” on the baseplate sticker. Juarez has wound pickups for artists including Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, George Harrison, and Slash, to name just a few. The Kahler 2520 Fulcrum tremolo is a very effective piece of kit with brass roller saddles and a quick, fluid response, and a chrome-plated replacement dome-topped knurled knob rounds out the hardware. The tremolo dates this guitar to the mid ‘80s, as it was phased out on Model 2s by ‘87.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss Red finish includes a handful of minor dings and faint finish scratches on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the lower bout perimeter and back, with light buckle worming on the back as well and some light requisite pick wear along the strum path. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

A Gator-brand molded hardshell case is included.
