Up for sale, a 1980 Yamaha SG1000 in excellent condition and in perfect working, complete with the original hardshell case. The little brother of the venerable SG2000 (known as the "Les Paul Killer" for numerous, very good reasons), the SG1000 is a well-crafted, soulful, and powerful-sounding instrument.
Weighing 10lbs 2oz, this Yamaha boasts set-neck construction, a carved two-piece maple top, and solid mahogany body, taking Gibson's tried and true tonewood combination and utilizing it to great effect. Yamaha also used a three-piece neck for this model with two pieces of mahogany paired with a central maple section, patented as the T-Cross System. This not only improves the stability of the neck, but also adds to the tonal complexity, with features of both tonewoods evident in the sound. The humbuckers are detailed and punchy with great harmonics, and these pickups feature dedicated push/push coil splits on the Tone pots. This SG1000 benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple/mahogany “T-Cross”
-Shape: Medium C, measuring .830” 1st fret, 1.010” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, pearloid split-triangle inlays
-Frets: Medium jumbo, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 11/16”, bone (replaced)
-Tuners: Yamaha Japan-branded
-Serialization: Six-digit stamp on peghead
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple, mahogany
-Pickups: Humbucker x2, “55.5.9” date stamps on pickup baseplates translate to 55th year of Showa period (1980)
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2 (push/push), three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Adjust-o-matic bridge, lyre-embossed stopbar
-Plastics: Two-ply black pickguard, gold reflector cap knobs with ridged grips
The gloss Red Sunburst finish is notably clean on top, with a few small finish chips, dings and scuffs largely on the body perimeter. The finish is particularly vibrant, with very little of the cloudiness that often plagues Yamahas of this era. There is one spot of touched-up finish just south of the control cavity cover on the back edge, buffed smooth and consistent in its feel and presentation with the surrounding finish. The neck profile has a smooth gloss with a couple small nicks on the bass-side shoulder at the 13th fret.
The original hardshell case is included.
