Up for sale, a 1980 Tokai Silver Star model SS-80 vintage electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of the more revered "lawsuit" vintage guitar brands, Tokai is known for making faithful iterations of favored USA models, and this top-tier Silver Star Strat is no exception, featuring a nitro lacquer Sunburst finish over a solid one-piece sen ash body. Loaded with a brand new Fender Custom Shop Custom ‘69 gray bobbin single coil pickup complement, this guitar delivers the Stratty goods with articulate snap and chime. The pickups have a chewy cut and sparkle, with biting twang in the bridge position, and a full, punchy sound with plenty of clarity at the neck. The 2 and 4 positions on the five-way switch also deliver great thinned-out quack. The guitar weighs 7lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and comfortable action.
The one-piece maple neck has a slender rounded C-shaped profile with moderate shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and stock slender frets which have plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, showing virtually no wear and playing cleanly in every register up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 25 1/2“, and the stock brass nut measures 1 5/8“ in width, adding to the snap and sustain of the instrument. The large Strat headstock features a block Silver Star logo, bullet truss rod, and set of chrome tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "80" sticker is present above the three-bolt neck plate noting the model tier, and the neck has micro-tilt adjustment just like a '70s Fender.
The electronics work as should with the Fender Custom Shop '69 gray bobbin pickups wired to the stock harness with a five-way pickup selector switch and Vol/Vol/Tone Strat control array. The bridge features stock premium brass keyhole saddles, and the chrome-plated bridge base and jack cup have plenty of shine. The vibrato has its full-size block for optimal sustain and resonance, fitted with three springs and responding smoothly for quick flutters and deeper dives. The original gloss nitro Sunburst finish highlights the grain of the solid one-piece sen ash body. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few spots where the clear coat of the finish has reacted, likely due to prolonged contact with a strap or cable on the back, with light scattered marks mostly relegated to the body perimeter. The neck profile sports a clean original gloss finish with a hint of flame figuring up the bass side of the profile.
The original black tolex hardshell case with gold plush interior is included.
