Up for sale, a 1980 Tokai Love Rock LS-200, complete with the original hardshell case. The Love Rock is Tokai’s enduringly popular take on the LP platform, and this instrument is one of the most coveted, exceedingly rare and faithful iterations of a late 50's Burst ever made. A 1958 Les Paul Standard was acquired by Tokai in the '70s and surgically reproduced to create this model, which is prized well beyond Tokai circles, with many a Gibson purist seeking out the LS-200.
Tokai's LS-200 “Pro Model” was the highest tier model at the time of production, available only via custom order, featuring hand-picked tonewoods and premium components, including a cashew lacquer finish, “Goto” humbuckers, and a two-piece carved flame maple top.
Weighing 8lbs 15oz with no weight relief, tonewoods include a one-piece mahogany body, two-piece carved and flitch-matched flame maple top, one-piece mahogany neck with a "baseball bat" carve, and bound rosewood fingerboard. The Goto “Patent Applied For” humbuckers are wound at the hotter end of a traditional PAF-style spectrum (~8.35k ohms), delivering the tailored midrange clarity and sweet warmth of that iconic design with a hair more power and presence: the bridge has a snarling, focused aggression, while the neck offers a broad airy quality balanced by smooth treble punch. This LS-200 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Trans Amber lacquer finish highlights the dimensional figuring in the curly flame maple top. As pictured, this Love Rock has been played heavily with various dings and nicks, particularly on the perimeter of the instrument, along with buckle rash on the back and some shallower marks on the neck profile carve. Exceedingly comfortable and worn-in, this Tokai has been setup to play its best and stands toe-to-toe with modern Custom Shop offerings.
A vintage Tokai case is included, presumably original and with the "Les Paul Reborn" branding that was retired just before the the Love Rock moniker was introduced.
